Housing rights are unmistakably
part of international human rights law.
In Sri Lanka, there is a large shortage of low cost housing particularly in the Rural areas resulting in significant numbers of people living in truly destitute conditions. Many live in absolute deprivation with no proper shelter coupled with inadequate or non existent systems for drainage and sewage. These squalid living conditions significantly hinder the lifestyles and does not enable such persons to function to their full capabilities at work whilst creating further degradation through the spread of infectious disease. OMEGA TECHNOLOGIES (PRIVATE) LIMITED., currently
involved in constructing and selling houses is interested in providing
Low Cost Housing together with the government of Sri Lanka. The
proposed scheme will enable the government to provide adequate
housing requirements to both the lowest income earners as well
as displaced personnel. |
